We have talked about Leaflet Design on a previous post, but now let us look at what we should do. The first thing I would recommend in an ideal world is that you have a professional design team with ad writers create your marketing media, these people have the skill and knowledge to be able to create a flyer quickly, that will look great and portray the right message. Design work is one of those very tricky areas that unless you have the background experience, it could take you many hours if not days, and the end result could still look less than ideal. Now we all know we don`t live in the perfect world and a percentage of our clients create their own artwork to then be printed, some do a great job, and the design that they create looks good, does have a design structure that looks professional and in the process they do save the cost of the Ad Agency, however, of the clients that do try to create their own, a certain percentage fail, and some fail in a very big way.
We have seen promotional material that have not had any contact details, No Company name, but more often than not the material that they produce just looks Home Produced, no graphics, images, or layout design, the text has just been plainly typed out in straight lines one below the other, perhaps with the text being centred so all lines start at different places.
If you are keen to produce your own media, look at other adverts that you see in newspapers, magazines and obviously other Leaflets that come through your own letterbox, collect a number perhaps 15 or 20, then study how the adverts are created, look at the layout, spacing, colours, the type of fonts, and sizing of the text. Once you have gained all this valuable knowledge you should be ready to create your own material.

Every week we have a diverse range of advertising media for Leaflet Distribution, from product samples right through to multi page newspapers, but every week we do receive media for distribution that does stand out, and why? well to be honest, they are of low quality, either on design and content, or on production quality, in the most extreme cases on both these fronts.
Content and design is so very important, if your media looks unprofessional you are severely risking the success of your leaflet distribution campaign, the householder will judge your services or company on the piece of paper that they pick up from their door mat.
Secondly, production, if you went to your front door and on the mat there were two leaflets, one was a glossy, printed both sides a5 flyer that was on good quality card stock of around 220 gsm, and the other was on the cheapest bright coloured very thin 80 gsm paper that is available in supermarkets and all the cheap office supplies stores, that had been photocopied onto, or just run without thought through an inkjet printer, which would grab your attention? and what first impression would you get regarding these two companies ?
These probably sound like very basic concepts, but you would be surprised how often we have to distribute media that suffer from these faults.

A question we are sometimes asked is” Do you do Shared Leaflet Distributions ?” Obviously we are always able to answer Yes, but does this Direct Marketing method offer the best value for money ? Whilst you do save a few pounds on the cost of each thousand delivered, is this saving worth having ?
Often the actual cost of delivering your leaflets is quite a small percentage of the total cost of the distribution when all things are considered, the design process right through to distribution, so when you are just saving a few pounds per thousand delivered, the saving made in percentage terms is very low. Clients often forget that the last stage of the distribution is one of the most important, trying to save just a few pounds can reduce the success of the whole process. Shared Leaflet distributions are often done on the basis that 3 or 4 leaflets will be delivered at the same time, this is perfectly fine for some industries and companies, as these are the type that distribute leaflets every week or fortnightly, and accept that sometimes their leaflet will be seen first, and sometimes not, but as the process is carried out so frequently it still makes great marketing sense. The problem will shared distributions comes when it is just a one off distribution, there is no doubt that a single leaflet on the door mat will certainly get a more positive response than a number all at the same time. Having media which is just a one off, falling on the door mat with others, does run the risk of being under other leaflets, being with other leaflets that have a greater interest to the householder, or just being too much information for the person who picks it up to digest at the moment they pick it up, we all know how busy most peoples lives are, Can you remember what leaflets came through your own door this week ?
So, does the saving offer good value for money ? I will let you decide.

The delivery of Leaflets must be one of the most popular business promotion methods in the UK, it offers a very cost effective way to get you marketing message to the public. It has certain advantages over other mediums in that your media is left in a physical form, so there is a good chance thay someone in the household may see the media. Depending on your requirements Leaflet Distribution can be targeted to your potential market sector. The most successful way to implement Leaflet deliveries is to regularly repeat distributions over the same areas, this will lead to greater market awareness of your business, which must be the ultimate goal for long term business success, having a great public profile will naturally lead to greater sales.
