Leaflet Distribution Using Business Cards
December 12th, 2008 Posted in MarketingLeaflet Distribution is all about about making an impact, the bigger the impact, the more chance you have of making an impression, if you make a suitable impression then your marketing message may well be read and its message taken on board, with hopefully a positive outcome, whether in a potential sales enquiry, a simple consideration of your product or service, that may well not have been thought about before, or the very best result, a sale, which if I am honest is the main hope of many advertisers.
We have seen just recently a number of our clients that have been using business cards as their media for their leaflet distribution, whilst anything is far better than nothing, and any advertising is always a positive thing, using business cards is far from ideal.
Lets be very realistic, size does matter, ask any lady ! Firstly, you media needs to make an impact, please ask yourself does a business card really do that, compare it to a high quality A5 or A4 flyer, place them side by side, which would grab your attention ? I would guess it would not be the business card. Secondly, think about the actual process of leaflet delivery, a person manually putting your media through a letterbox. Most doors are around 50mm thick, or certainly in this area, the letterbox is a component that cuts through this thickness often with a liner, the out edge being a solid flap, and on the inner side, very often a draft reducing device, all sounding rather technical, but in reality nothing more than two brushes, one hanging from the top surface, the second pointing up from the bottom, with the brush tips touching, the idea to stop any draft which comes through the outer flap.
Have you ever tried putting things through a letterbox, for most people, this is probably a no, but trust me, anyone who has will know what I mean, in the industry these letterboxes have a name, well they certainly do at Mailbox Nationwide. This brush draft trap is often fairly robust, and very often fairly difficult to slide media through, even when it is of a suitable size, eg A4/A5, now lets think about your business card, in reality it is no longer than the door thickness itself, and it is faced by this fierce draft trap, now imagine the problem, there surely must be a chance of this card staying inside the the letterbox, or indeed being caught in the brushes, and will not be fully pushed through until a larger item is pushed through, it will then fall to the floor with something else, loosing the advantage of the solus leaflet distribution, and competing on the door mat, which going back to size again, will be very hard.
The difference in the distribution costs compared to a normal sized leaflet will be very minimal, or quite probably it will be the same cost, the only difference will be the printing. If you work out the difference in cost, it will not be great, i would think, a small number of pounds for the average distribution, but believe me, the difference in the impact you will make, and the potential advantages you will receive in most peoples opinion must be significant.
Cost in not everything, value is.
