When someone makes contact with your company for the first time what is the first impression that they get ?

Recently we urgently had to find and use the services of an Electrician, so off we went trying to find as many local tradesmen as possible and start calling them, now the issue we had was not a major one, but something we could not do ourselves, very similar to most home/business breakdowns, so for the tradesman, quick easy job, and very easy money.

We quickly complied a list of around 10 businesses and started calling, What do you think we found, bearing in mind that it was in the middle of the day and midweek, well we found not much, but two things did start to crop up over and over again, firstly an answerphone, with a message similar to, “We are not in right now, leave a message and we will return your call on our return” and secondly the phone is answered and all you get is a ”Hello”  Does this inspire confidence?  Not in a million years.

Did we find someone?  you bet, did they have an answerphone or just say “Hello”  don`t be silly, we found a company that answered the phone in a professional manner, dealt with our needs quickly and had an electrician to us within about 30 minutes, who sorted our problem within about 15 minutes, How much did they charge ?? Lets just say rather a lot, but was it good value ? Yes of course, as our problem was sorted swiftly, and the best thing of all is that we now know who to call next time.
