Royal Mail Misses Delivery Target

Published by Caroline at 2:08 pm under Marketing

The BBC reported today that Royal Mail has again missed its delivery targets for addressed mail, with only 85.2% of first class letters arriving on time. The company has cited the severe strike action during 2007 as the cause of this issue. Meanwhile, the CEO of Royal Mail took home a record £3 million last year, prompting speculation that the company is rewarding failure. This will be of interest to anyone planning a leaflet distribution. The consumer watchdog ‘Postcomm’ has recommended that the addressed mail sector now be opened up to private companies in order to reduce costs and increase standards. It has also asked the Chancellor to review Royal Mails exemption from VAT. This can only be a good thing – after 350 years perhaps the countries largest direct mail provider can finally become competitive in a truly fair market place. We await the full report in the summer.Source: BBC News
