Rush Hour

If you ask anyone at Mailbox Nationwide HQ what our greatest strength is, time and again, the answer invariably involves flexibility, short lead times, and cool heads.

Never was this more apparent than yesterday, when at one o’clock, we received a call to arms like no other. The telephone call went something like this:

Caller: Hello, I need 350,000 leaflets delivered into Central London on Monday, I’ve got about 400 boxes here that I’ve taken off seven pallets so that I can fit them into my office, can you collect from me? Oh and by the way, they all need delivering by Friday, is that OK?

Mailbox Nationwide Call Handler: *Falls to the floor*

After we picked ourselves up, a plan of action was swiftly put into place. After all, we couldn’t very well leave the chap stuck in his office with only 400 boxes of leaflets for company – for all we knew, he’d been trapped in there for days!

Within hours, a lorry was dispatched en route to London (we didn’t envy the poor driver who was going to have to make 400 separate trips to his lorry carrying one box at a time, but needs must). Every single member of staff in the area was roused and put on standby, using coercion techniques that the Russians would be proud of – we now owe a number of our teams copious amounts of Mars Bars, an occupational hazard if you work in Human Resources. Funnily enough, several of our management team have also volunteered to take a ‘business trip’ up to London next week to oversee the teams – their dedication surpasses no other.

So, a successful outcome, and an order turned around in a matter of hours. I think that’s one for the record books!
